HR lessons from Taylor Swift's engagement

(Jk it's our newsletter)

Hi friends,

Summer is slowly winding down but like Taylor (an english teacher marrying a gym teacher) we’re fully in our back to school era: sharpening our pencils, building workshop curriculums, handling any (workplace) bullies and helping managers get extra credit. September’s energy of renewal is a great time to refresh your team’s policies and handbook, get compensation cleaned up before year-end bonus time, or keep your own (team) engagement a love story with a survey. Full disclosure: We only have space for one or two collaborations for the rest of the year, so speak now and save your seat.

Bright Reads 📚

  • The social media manager behind Duolingo (legendary poster!) has left her post, and shared her equally excellent, very-Gen-Z letter of resignation publicly.

  • The poaching of AI talent has garnered a lot of breathless coverage lately. Lulu Cheng Meservey, who is (interestingly) a tech comms person, shared a few strategies for winning that war. Spoiler: past a certain salary point, it’s not really about how much money you can pay. A lot of these ideas can be applied to any role in a talent-leaning market, and I think companies facing one should absolutely lean on their comms people a lot more for talent acquisition projects.

  • If you’re using Zapier to automate some of your HR functions/connect data across your people tools, here’s a booklet from them with some workflow ideas.

  • Manual labourers are livestreaming their workdays, hoping for an additional income stream. “I respected the fact that these laborers had found a way to make money (via the internet) while they made money (via their jobs) and that they were revealing something about their lives to the world. At the same time, they now existed within the framework of mindless, dissociative entertainment. They did hard work for low pay, a fact that made our lives more comfortable. Now we were also watching them do it — for fun?”

  • Ever wondered what’s on Sam Altman’s (or Sam Bankman-Fried’s) Spotify playlists? Me neither, but it’s fun to find out.

  • People Operations Lead- Flipp (12 month contract)

Know someone bilingual looking for a remote customer support role? Could be a great option!
