Building Bright: Issue #109

Links links links

We’re still in summer mode, so here’s some links we’re talking about this week.

🏝️ Today in unique benefits: this company bought a private island for employees to vacation on.

💨 Checking your email? You’re probably not breathing.

💆🏽‍♀️ Would you work multiple jobs at once? What about multiple HR jobs? (If you’ve ever worked even one, you might be exhausted just thinking about it).

✔️ Companies advertising pregnancy termination benefits are getting 8% more clicks on their job postings than companies who don’t.

💕 A cool handbook on creating accessible digital experiences. Share with your designers!

🫠 “Urgency culture” keeps rising; first with the advent of smartphones (email, anywhere!) and then the blurring of home and office that remote work brings. It’s harder to resist when you’re from an underrepresented community and always feeling like you need to prove yourself.

🤢 Does the thought of taking a vacation make you anxious? Does the trouble of taking time off work not seem worth it? You’re not right, but you’re also not alone.

🧛🏻‍♀️ The latest workwear trend? Corporate goths.

🫡 Today in irony, employees at Zoom are being asked to return to the office.
