Issue 110: Indigenous Inclusion at Work

Doing business differently in a changing world.

Hi friends,

Welcome to our first autumn edition this year. For me, this is a time to slow down, nest, and get back on track. Stepping back from summer’s intense rush to live, it’s now a great time to reflect.

One good thing to reflect on is how we’re showing up in the world, as individuals and as collective organizations. With the world literally burning around us, it’s time to think about how we can do business differently. On October 10, we’ll be hosting our next (virtual) Early Session, this time focusing on Indigenous inclusion at work. Hosted by Steph Bergman, a consultant on the B+E team and proud member of the Métis Nation, this free workshop will discuss the Indigenous peoples and communities that live across the land we know as North America, dive into the impacts of colonialism, and explore why this is still relevant. We’ll bring this knowledge to the current time to discuss why truth is first needed before we reconcile. We’ll finish with a conversation about how we can build more inclusive work environments and discuss key action points you can take immediately within your organization. The session is free, but spots are limited; secure your team’s spots by signing up here!

Steph also shared some insights on reconciliation in Early magazine last year (link below!). I learn a lot from Steph all the time, and I’m so grateful that she’ll be sharing her knowledge with our wider community*.

Also, if you’re attending Elevate next week in Toronto, Trisha and I will be teaching a masterclass on designing great places to work. Our session is on Wednesday, September 27th at 2.30 pm. If you’re an underrepresented founder/tech worker and your employer won’t cover a ticket, hit reply– I’ve got a couple free ones to give away.

Stay bright,

Nora

*Steph is also happy to do a custom talk or training for your organization. A reminder that as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation approaches, please do have a budget before reaching out to any Indigenous speaker or creator (there are so many great ones out there!) to work with your team, and know that they may not want to be working on the day itself, so try to be flexible.
