Issue #120: Join us at B+E

Plus: A definitive guide to reviews (for non-managers)

Hi friends!

We’re now 120 issues into Early, and almost 7 years (!) into building Bright + Early. It’s been an amazing journey, and one of the things I’m most proud of is our open-source ethos. Over the years, we’ve experimented, developed and refined the “Bright + Early Way” of practicing modern, human-first People Operations, in all its facets. We see a future where the world's most successful companies are built on empathetic and conscious people practices, and we want to share what we find and build, regardless of whether you hire us to work with you (which you can still totally do!)

We have the privilege of having some really incredible practitioners in our network, too: all of you. Whether you’re a founder or ops person wearing 50 hats, an in-house HR team of one, a corporate baddie or a nonprofit warrior, you’re out there reinventing what good work can look like. We see you! And as we keep building our always-free library of modern HR guides and resources, we want to feature your voices.

To do that, we’d love for you to join our network of expert contributors! Every few weeks, we’ll send you some thought provoking questions, and alongside those B+E best practices, curate your own trailblazing thoughts, methodologies and approaches in both the newsletter and Early magazine, to share right back with our community. We do not advertise in Early (the newsletter or the magazine) or charge for our guides, and we never will. We’ll also be sure to credit and feature you here (and on socials) like the star you are! Sign up here to get on the list. All readers are welcome, regardless of your role or organization’s size.

Some fun softballs to kick us off:

  • Tell us your thoughts about Zoom etiquette. Are you pro (or anti) desk treadmill? Can one eat during a video meeting? If you’ve got something to get off your chest about video meetings (or a wild story about something you've seen in one), let’s talk about it.

  • What is the best virtual work hangout or team building activity you’ve done? What was the worst (don’t get us started on the laggy Zoom drag show we attended in 2020 WITHOUT SOUND. Those ladies did their best!). It’s tough to make remote events feel less like a drag (ahem) so we’d love to hear what’s worked for you.

Thanks for your support, for both our work and each other.

Stay Bright,

Nora
